Double Amber/Purple
A double-dose amber/purple reactive rod; work in a hot oxidizing flame for deep purples, or reduce for opaque milky amber — kiln- or flame-strike to develop color.
Outcomes
-
Deep, saturated purple strike — more intense than standard amber/purple due to doubled reactive contentWork in a hot oxidizing flame. Burn off any silver haze at high heat before striking, then flame- or kiln-strike at 1125–1150°F for ~60 min for uniform color development.
-
Opaque milky amber/yellow when flame is not oxidizing enough or when reducedIf the flame is not sufficiently oxidizing or drifts reducing, color locks as an opaque milky amber instead of striking to purple.
Working notes
- Work in a hot oxidizing flame — a flame that is not oxidizing enough will result in opaque milky amber instead of purple.
- Never work in a reducing flame if purple is the desired result.
